SINGAPORE- KENYA: THE CONTRAST

It was a great experience for those of us who attended the Inter-varsity Leadership Conference at Citam- Karen over the weekend. Among the speakers were, pastor Terry Gobanga, Charles Kanjama, an advocate of the high court of Kenya, Julius Kipngetich, the current Uchumi supermarket CEO, Godfrey Ipalei among other speakers.
Julius Kipngetich dealt mainly with facts. He started by saying how a while ago Singapore admired Kenya's administration and how the tables turned and Singapore inspired Kenya's vision 2030.
opportunity meets preparedness: The selfie tells it all
Lee Kwan Yew who was the prime minister, transformed Singapore from a tiny struggling island into one of the world's richest countries. He was intolerant of corruption, graft, failure and mediocre results. The CEO echoed my sentiments that we are not yet there. He explained how Singapore managed to build a floating stadium since there was no land.
The country is filled with citizens of Chinese origin but English is the national language.
The prime minister  himself lived in the same house with the same simple furniture, throughout his rein.
Civil servants are the highest paid workers, ministers wear white to show that they were clean. Tribalism is not allowed, people are to mix by law. In our country leaders fight to have flags on their cars. A county with the lowest life expectancy recently launched an airstrip instead of concentrating on health. Talk of misplaced priorities. Civil servants strike yearly while leaders seek to increase their salaries. Scandals pop up and mysteriously disappear. Golden Berg saga, Karen land saga, the euro bond,  Chicken scandal now the NYS it will be here only for a while then nothing will be heard of it again and no one will be charged.
Authentic leadership is the ingredient we are lacking and we are the ones to change all these.
