LOVE

Love.this word arouses lots of feelings in people. Back in the days love was a tradition especially in Africa. People used to love one another regardless of the circumstances. There was no need for one to love somebody from the mere fact that they knew them. In those days, the phrase "I love you" was used genuinely.

I once had a friend, at the time of this incident am narrating, she was about seventeen years of age.

It was valentine season, flowers and those three words were trending. My friend's crush saw this as a nice opportunity, to convince my friend.  He came with his confidence all refreshed and beautiful red and white flowers in hand. We were in the school's play ground when he came and presented the flowers and the three words to her.  Just then, my friend ran towards the direction of the gate, screaming inaudible words.

She took the whole school's attention with her, when she had disappeared, every one starred at the poor boy with the rejected flowers. I actually thought the flowers were the problem but later when I inquired, she told me her mother had instructed her to run and scream whenever a boy said the three words to her. Of course she was not supposed to take the words literally.

What makes people come up with such "defense mechanisms?" Few people say and mean the word "love," others say it just to get what they want, others say it because they hear others saying it while others say it by default.

Love makes all the difference. It brings the best in us as human beings. It is not something for this season only, its for all seasons. This valentines, smile at somebody and tell them that you love them and mean it, extend a hand of forgiveness to those who once hurt you. Be there for a friend, a sister, brother or a parent. For those who feel unloved, "I love you" and God loves you the most. But hey, don't run away.

Have a lovely valentines
